Book Review of "Fences"

   The play "Fences" is a tragedy, written by August Wilson. The play's setting is in 1957 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  The play "Fences" is divided into two acts. Act One has four scenes and Act Two has five. "Fences" main protagonist is Troy Maxson, who is an African American in his fifties . The play's major characters are Troy, his wife Rose, their teenage son Cory, Troy's son Lyon, and Troy's bestfriend Bono. 

   There are numerous conflicts that occur in "Fences". One conflict that occurs is Troy's oldest son, Lyon in his thirties is always asking Troy for money and don't want to get a real paying job. Another conflict is Troy constantly bumping heads with his son Cory about him being him playing football in college. Due to Troy's bad experience with sports, he doesn't think sports is the best choice for Cory. The biggest conflict of them all is Troy committing adultery with a woman name Alberta and impregnated her.

   The things I like about this play is how it hit different aspects of African American lives. I liked how Rose wanted to keep her family close to her and locked in and did not want other people coming in. They were all about family. Some of the things I disliked is Troy stepping outside of his marriage. Also how it was hard for black people to advance in their careers.

    I recommend this book for an audience who wants to discover the hardships of African Americans in the 1900s. Also the hardships of dealing with family and holding a family together.

Reflection about Fencesf

     Today, while reading Fences we find out Troy is cheating with the Tallahassee girl and impregnated her. He confessed this news to Rose and she was very hurt. In the book it tells us that Rose forgives Troy easy through all of his mistakes. Even though story confessed he cheated, she still decided to stay and put up with it. I figure Roae does this because she has nobody else to be with and to support her.

Reflection

     Today in Mr. Rease class we started a new book called Fences. I really enjoy the book because the characters in it.  The character I mostly enjoy is Troy. Teoy’s character is so blunt and real that it makes the reader really like him. On top of that he has a great sense of humor. Also his wife Rose, is a typical wife. Troy say no to one thing and Rose says yes to it.

     Today I had a bad day at school. I wasn’t in the mood too really do any work. I guess it’s becausw it’s getting closer and closer to graduation. But I have to keep myself motivated because I still have 5 years of college left. I also went valentines days shopping for my brother’s girlfriend today. He had trouble shopping for a girl.

Reflection

     Today our AP Lit class talked about the process of answering a prompt for our AP Exam.  The techniques our teacher uses is actually really helpful. I feel as though I am improving and is doing better from when I first started.  I have trouble wording my sentences. If I get better at wording my sentences I guarantee I will have a 4 on my exam.

   Today was a normal school day. I came to school and did all my work.  Mr. Rease helped us today with our writing prompts for the AP Exam. I think the novel The Color Purple will help me with answering numerous questions. The Color Purple is a book I really enjoyed.

     My Saturday was very eventful. I went out to eat with my sister and my friend, we ate at a restaurant called Halftime. They have the best wings in town. After we ate we went to go get some desert at Sno Dash. Sno Dash is the place where they sell rolled up ice cream.
     Sunday I stayed in the house all day and slept. I caught up on a little homework for my Calculus class. I also read a little of The Color Purple  for my Literature class.

     Today I traveled to Atlanta to pick up my big sister’s friend. The way to and from up there I was sleep. But while I was up there I ate at an awesome seafood place call The Juicy Crab. It has some of the best seafood I ever tasted. Hopefully, they can build one in Mobile, it would be a very popular place.

     I had a wonderful day at school. One thing I didn’t too much enjoy was our school’s lunch . Today we had Chinese food, which was terrible. I wish I could prepare my own food to eat for lunch. I also heard great news today that our school’s basketball team will be playing in the championship.

     Today I had a National Honor Society meeting. During the meeting we talked about graduation. We discuss what graduate accessory should go with our cap and gown for National Honor Society. As we sat and talked about that, it made me realize how close graduation is and how much I will miss my classmates.

Reflection:
     Reading the Color Purple is interesting as always. Today I’ve learned that Celie has a gift of being able to read people easily. She can always tell when it’s a problem going on with somebody.  Harpo and Sofia both come to Celie about problems with their marriage and Celie gives advice.  She tries to make Harpo understand that he has a good wife on his hands.

     Today at school it was a HI-Q competition in the Gym. Bob Grip was the announcer for it. It was fun being in the audience of the competition and the experience of it. Although we came last in the competition, I can see they tried their best. Hopefully, B.C. Rain do better next time and come in 1st place.
